That report must only apply to fairbanks because there were WAY more than 300 job losses in the oil and gas industry in anchorage and the north slope, my company alone has laid off probably 60-70% of there intown jobs and now they are talking about laying off slope positions, not that I have much sympathy for the onslope positons as most of them are over paid designers. I have thought about switching from engineering to being a designer but I think alot of it has to do with being a BS artist, extorting your client and then leaving the state we had alot of that on the past projects. I think this is why we will start seeing more lump sum type contracts, this will force designer rates down and more importantly get rid of fluff over time thats not really being worked or you just wont get the contracts.

I would not mind seeing more green projects but the problem is some special interest group somewhere is blocking alof of manufacturing type facilities for these types of things, just shipping stuff like that up here and installing it does not really create jobs it just costs money, you have to actuall make or produce something to generate wealth, there is also no engineering or manufacture that goes into simply importing solar panals you have to be designing them and producing them in order for any jobs to be created. Its like everyone wants to jump on to the band wagon and order up some solar panals and then they can say yay we are going green, yea and so what you have not created any well paying jobs.

Huh? I didn't know Bethel was on an island

We are heading into winter. We will continue to see job losses because of our seasonal economy. However, Alaska is not immune from this recession, and its not over yet.

Most of such jobs are temporary. I have received a few offers since I retired from the military, and didn't accept any because they aren't full-time permanent jobs.

Most of what I've been looking at are permanent jobs Ray. More in Anchorage than anywhere else though.

The only problem I've found is that most of them don't pay very well at all.
