Moving to Petersburg in June/July (Coast Guard). We are looking for any information available. We three children (6,4,2).

Are there homes available for rent? purchase?

How's the housing market for purchasing/selling. We are going to be there for three years.

What kind of activities are available for children?

Is there any where to take flight lessons on the island?

Thank you.

You're lucky; Petersburg is one of the best places in SE Alaska.

Very nice town and good duty station, lots of CG retired there.

Don't you have an assigned sponsor to assist in getting settled there? When I was in the Guard, that was a normal thing to get a new guy and family settled in, I would figure that is still the case.

Your best bet on flying would be to buy a C150 and get one of the FBO's who is a CFI to work with you if you are getting your ticket. When I was stationed in Valdez, I bought a C150 and learned with that. Worst case is you have to hop to another town to get training in the bird, get checked out to go back and forth to Petersburg after getting checked off for solo cross country.

Anyway, like Met said, go to the post she had and put an ad in the paper looking for what you want, should get good results if there is any openings.

This may help too....
