You guys just hang onto your monies. I'm not posting here for charity! Just explaining an example of how we try to help fellow community members when things go bad.

I think it would be fun to go to the grocery store and find someone who is buying a lot of ramen noodles and other items that indicate an extreme food budget and arrange to pay for their grocery tab without them knowing who did it. Of course you run the risk of offending someone if you make the wrong choice.

Well, I'm not bashful! They can address it to me and I'll definitely find some nice senior citizen who'll enjoy benefiting from their money!
Realistically though, the business of looking for someone buying ramen at the grocery store is a little difficult; but one that I've been doing for years is paying for a senior citizen's meal at a restaurant. That's an odd one though, because in a place like Anchorage it's more difficult to spot someone that can use the help, but easier to do it anonymously. Here in Barrow it's a lot easier to know who, but it can be very hard to pull off without the person knowing who did it too. (Danged old Fran Tate over at Pepe's won't keep her yap shut! She tells. Of course she's 80+ years old and I should buy her dinner! At Sam&Lee's Mrs. Kim would keep a zippered lip. She knows the value of a secret.)

I just have this theory that sometimes those who may need a helping hand the most are often unable to seek it out because they are too busy at work to be able to go anywhere and wait around for a box of food that lasts for two days, if you like eating a lot of canned corn! Whew, what a sentence! With my luck, if I were a position to help someone, I'd probably accidentally pick someone well off who just happened to like ramen...

I know you were not posting for charity! My current commu ity has many many helping programs set up which I do support $ and time wise...this fellow you mention has a long hard recovery time, if an outsider is willing to help...please accept the help! now I am still awaiting that DM with an address!
Well then let me make a phone call later on today and get one. It would probably blow some minds if they got a card from out of state let alone out of town!

That actually happened to me a couple years back when I put $100 in a jar at the Arctic Bar in Ketchikan to help a couple that had lost their home.
