We are as much a part of England as the USA is. Why is it that sooo many Americans know complete squat about anything. The Queen is just our figurehead head of state and I sure prefer that than having some slimy politician as the head of state. If our Prime minister turns out to be a thief, liar, crook, goofball or any of the other things that politicians usually are, well that's expected from them. The Queen on the other hand well she is as the Beatles said a "pretty good old girl". She must have agreed as she knighted Sir Paul.

Sort of. Elizabeth II plays a figurehead queen for the Canadians. Keeps them happy.

Myself, I'm happier with a Dairy Queen.

Colo. man gets 337-pounder in Alaska halibut derby

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A Colorado man hauled in a 337-pound halibut that is easily the biggest catch in southcentral Alaska this season.

Associated Press - Juneau Empire (http://ap.juneauempire.com/pstories/state/ak/20100615/654278022.shtml - broken link)

That's a big fish. Almost the size of Texas.

Why is it that so many Canadians know squat about anything? I'll tell you why... Because the larger the population a country has, the larger the amount of idiots live in said country. So, with that logic India and China must have the densest concentration of people who know Jack Schitt, n'est-ce pas? Anyways...

I'm so tired of people in other countries assuming that all Americans are stupid and know nothing about Geography, History, or anything else for that matter. I guess they just seem to forget all the contributions many American have made throughout the centuries.

You asked how many people knew about Nunavut. I do... I've been to Canada back in 2000 and even got one of the commemorative Nunavut toonies that was issued in '99. As was previously posted, this topic was talking about states within the United States so you bringing up good ol' Canada is kind of irrelevant.

That's funny that Texas is taught that they're in the Union. lol I always thought the 13 original colonies were considered the "Union". And wasn't Texas part of the Confederacy during the Civil War? Sheesh...

So, yeah... Rant off.

The United States is the "Union" (as in, union of states). That's why every year the President gives a "State of the Union" address. Texas was a Confederate State during the Civil War, at which time they were not part of the Union, having seceded from it. Once the war was over the Confederate States were (forcibly) brought back into the Union. Sheesh, indeed.
