I live far away from Alaska, but since I like nature, I would eventually like to visit or even relocate there. As of today you can now see a lot of Alaska and rural Canada in google street view, I am currently checking out Ketchikan, that area looks really nice. You should all check it out to see if your town is on there.

My place here in Anchorage was built two years ago and isn't on the satellite view but when I was checking out the options I found more recent and also older pictures which showed the area over the years. My condo is on the most recent view which was January 2010. It is on a little clock on the upper bar and you can select the date you want to see. The older pictures show the area when almost nothing was built and it was interesting to see how the area developed. When I looked back where we used to live I could see when different things were built which I knew from our time there. The earliest image for Anchorage was for about 1996 before any of the condos were even built. Ah to have a time machine and make all the money Rpoo thinks he needs to exist by buying all that property at dirt cheap prices.

I actually passed the two Google mapping cars up on the Dalton last summer - they were stopped at the flagman heading north at the road improvemnt site just north of Ice Cut. It was quite amusing seeing those two tiny Priuses or Geo metros (or whatever they are) up in the mud among all of the big trucks.

It appears that all of the pictures are up now so you can take a virtual drive all the way up the Dalton to Prudhoe.

I need to take some time and see if my picture got taken. If anyone sees a shot of a big red GMC crew-cab heading south on the road between Pump 2 and 3 let me know, it could be me!

Most of the people that are here are though, unless you just want a satalite pic of some woods.

Yea, now that you mention it, that whole trip was pretty smokey, even up north of the Pass. I wonder if they made several trips?

Also, I notice allot of dead skeeters on many of the shots. I wonder how often they had to stop and clean the cameras?!
