Today, took a drive South of the house to Denali National Park (about a 40 mile drive), they plowed the road open to the Savage River. Took the camera expecting to see some critters... didn't.

What I did see a few miles from the house along the highway was a Coyote that appeared to be a young one. Stopped the car and turned around and went back and took a bunch of photos while he just stood there looking around. When another car came to a screeching halt and turned around to see him, he ran off, got a few seconds of video of him jumping off into the tree line.

In the past, have seen a number of wolves in the same area crossing the road, even got photos of one standing there for a bit too. No clue to where it is in my computer....

Seems like I see more critters in my yard than in the park...

Most of the critters they have there wander through the yard now and then, so the road trip is more of a just get out of the house thing.. Spring fever stuff.

We drove to Denali on Saturday and did some snowshoeing on the trails then drove through the park and didn't see any critters either. It sure is beautiful there!

I enter the lottery ever year for a chance to drive all the way back to Wonder Lake. Driven back two times out of the last five years. You do get to see a higher constration of critters. Last trip I think the bear count was about 12, wolf 4, sheep we lost count..

Whaddayaknow, I was there on Friday / Saturday too. I was hoping to head up Mt. Healy via Bison Gulch, but woke up to the Nenana Gorge wind tunnel and un-promising skies. I wish I had known they plowed the road to Savage! Instead I decided to be responsible and go run errands in Fairbanks. What a wuss...

There are times that wind can be terrible. Have flown though the pass there a bunch of times, once the wind was blowing so hard I was showing 110 MPH indicated airspeed, and going nowhere over the ground, after about twenty min's and climbing up to different altitudes, nothing changed, just turned around and went back to Nenana.

Not only don't you go anywhere on days like that, you get beat to death from the turbulence too.
