I am planning to take my elderly Mom and her two grandchildren to Lake George next week and would appreciate some info from the locals. The Room Saver discount coupons are valid from Sun-Thurs, but I was wondering if Monday would be a better day to travel than Sunday, I was thinking Sunday might be too crowed up there and travel would be more difficult due to weekenders at Lake George. If i travel on Monday, is there lots of traffic on the NYS thruway going to Albany in the morning rush hour? I'm traveling from Westchester County and I'm trying to figure out the best time in the morning to start driving up there.

I was thinking about staying at the Tahoe hotel with the coupon, I already called them and there is availability next week (you cannot make an advance reservation with the coupons), but I just read on Trip Advisor that most posters are saying the Tahoe is filthy and not to stay there. I'll need to call other hotels in the Room Saver book and check availability next week now, so I was wondering if I don't stay directly on the lake, but find a place in Glens Falls or something, if there too much traffic to drive into Lake George from the outer towns, and about how long is the drive without any traffic.

Additionally, I wanted to know if there is anything to see across the border in Vermont, as it looks very close to Lake George on the map, and any other places of interest in the area, especially for kids. Is the Baseball Hall of Fame near Lake George? I seem to remember it being it that area from years ago, but I'm not sure now.

Thx.

Sundays in LG are busy.

The Baseball Hall of Fame is in Cooperstown, NY. A few hours drive from Lake George. It's way south.

Whenever we stay in LG, we end up at the Hampton Inn on the main drag. Not on the lake but very nice. A couple of weeks ago, we stayed at the Wingate. A little off the main drag behind a Rite Aid drug store. Both very nice and convenient.

As far as VT, there is some nice scenery near the border (Lake Boomoseen). However, you would probably want to drive up to Burlington. It's a nice drive on US7. Right before you get to Burlington, there is the VT Teddy Bear Factory. They do factory tours that will probably interest kids. Afterwards, you can take a ferry across Lake Champlain and catch the Northway in Plattsburgh south back to LG.
