Well... I'm curious to know...we are a couple both in early 30s planning to move to Albany. Im a student & my husband would be working for GE Research at Niskayuna.
All my life, I have never lived anywhere else but my city and I was wondering... is it easy making friends in a new country & a new place being in your 30s? Are we treated like weirdos from another planet? Can we get enrolled in a club and play say- tennis, golf, squash? or even bridge, bingo or poker? Do we get stares from people if we land up in an all white bar?

I think I asked a lot of questions
It would be really helpful if someone could answer!
Thanks in advance!

~ Cheers, Malge

I don't think there would be any issues. Niskayuna has a decent amount of Asian(Eastern and Southern) residents due to GE and it is next to a pretty diverse city in Schenectady. So, I wouldn't worry about living in the area.

I'm not sure about clubs or anything, but someone should be able to bring up specific information.

I agree with everyone else. Ethnicity seems to be a non-issue around here.

It's tougher to make friends in your 30s than say your 20s. But it doesn't have anything to do with your ethnicity and it isn't even exclusive to Albany. It's everywhere. At that age people are more settled in life, have children, and just aren't in situation where they're meeting new people on a regular basis.

It's good that you'll be a student since that will expose you to lots of other students. It's important to get involved in school and activities so that you have a chance to meet people. Good luck!

My wife and I are Korean, moved from Queens to Saratoga Springs. We absolutely love it. The one thing I miss is the food, but there are many places on Central Avenue that are comparable and good.

We don't have any issues.
