If anyone might be able to share with me the closest state I might be able to travel to, to buy cigarettes at a lower price than New York. I had heard Vermont was a good place to go. But, I have no idea where in Vermont. And, is Vermont the best place to go? I'm willing to travel a few hours and make a day trip of it, picking up a couple months worth of cigarettes. The brands I want are "Marlboro" and Newport" I have been ordering them from another country for quite a number of years now, paying approximetly $25 per corton. But, since the new law was passed, on March 30th, 2010, it has become illegal to ship cigarettes via usps. From my understanding, all the internet cigarette companies will be shutting down within the next 90 days. I refuse to pay NY State taxes on cigarettes. I plan on making a monthly / bi-monthly trip to buy them for myself and friends. But, I am clueless as to which state to travel to and where to go once I'm there. I live in Albany New York. Is there anyone who might be able to help me and point me in the right direction? Which state and where? Thank you for your help =)
Respecfully, Noel

Go gambling for a weekend on Turning Stone casino and pick up a couple cartons. Lucky for me, it is on the way from home to school so I go there every time I take a trip on the Thruway.

Hello Noel,

I've been in the same quandary myself, I used to order from the Indian reservations, but as you noted that business will be shutting down shortly due to the Pact Act. Also people have been getting hit with 5 and 10k tax notices in other states when the tax people get a hold of any sales records from these places.

I looked into importing cigarettes from another state, like you, I wanted people to pool funds to make the trip worthwhile, the problem is, the savings really wasn't going to be worth the time and gas, as well as being charged with a felony if I got stopped with 50 cartons in the car. So I decided to look into making my own, which is entirely legal.

It sounds complicated, but it really isn't. You just get a machine, this is the one I use...

And then you buy tubes which are pretty much available anywhere, they just look like cigarettes without any tobacco in them...

I can crank up a pack of cigarettes in less time than it takes to drive to a Stewart's store, and no forking out 8 dollars a pack, for me to make a pack, it costs me 1.25, shipping tubes, tobacco and all. I started out 4 months ago and by my count I've saved 1200 dollars, between opting out of NY taxes that I wasn't given the opportunity to vote on and the fact that I've cut my smoking down.

Which is one another thing, when you smoke a cigarette that's simply pure tobacco, just the plant, something that hasn't been monkeyed with by chemists, a funny thing happens. I used to smoke a pack and a half a day, the first day on my new creations I smoked 14 cigarettes.

Anyways, i've got some links to share if it's something you might be interested in. The quality of these things that you can make on your own is very impressive, it's like the difference between a McDonald's hamburger and one cooked on your own grill.

Edit:

Sorry the links are messed up, i guess this place isn't link friendly

The closest and cheapest state to our area is New Hampshire...who still has no sales tax. There are New Hampshire State Liquor (also very cheap) Stores who sell the cheapest in that state. Everyone from VT goes there. Trust me, I lived in Woodstock VT for 11 yrs.

I make my own, using the empty cigarette tubes. About a dollar a pack.
When they raised the tax on one pound bags of cigarette tobacco to $42
I switched to mild cigar tobacco, and hardly notice the difference at $14 a bag.

It's also healthier to smoke, minus the chemicals. I make my cigarettes while watching TV, can now do three at a time.

Dry the tobacco on a cookie sheet, crush it up, then sift it into the tubes.

Smoking has never been more pleasurable.
