Anybody know who has good pizza in the Upper Union area of Schenectady? We just relocated here and are looking for something along the lines of Pepe's or Modern in New Haven. These are old school pizza joints with coal fired ovens where people will gladly wait for an hour (or more) to get a table. Anything like that up here? Thanks!

I like "I love NY Pizza" on Union St. Fireside on Eastern Pkwy near Price Chopper is popular. Other places I've heard about are Mario's on River Rd., Pizza King on Jay St. in Sch'dy, Nico's on State St. also in Sch'dy.

when we lived in Schenectady in 2008 and 2009, NY Pizza was the greatest ever, second this recommendation

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. I'll try to keep you updated as we check them out. So far the only place we've gone is Marino's (based on a friends recommendation), which is down on Central Ave in a grungy looking part of town. But the place was packed out on a Friday night and had very good pizza. Not quite the same as New Haven pizza, but really good flavor. We'd go again!
