How is the job market for teachers in the Capital Region? I currently live in Richmond, VA and my girlfriend is a senior at Skidmore, plus she grew up in Saratoga Springs. I love Richmond, but I also love NY. I have a post-graduate professional license in VA (which means you're fully licensed with a Masters) in Secondary Social Studies. I used to live in Syracuse, and I know things were pretty bad there. Are things any better there?

I don't know many people without a job to be honest. One of my friends that's a teacher, it did take him a while to find a job. Keep your eye on the newspaper, and other online job sites. There is always a lot of talk of lay offs, but I never see it in our schools, which I'm thankful for. Do you currently have a job in VA? If you are looking to move up here, I'd find a job, any job first. Substitue, get to know the various districts & adminastrators. Look into the public, private and charter schools. I'm not sure if any of the schools list jobs on their sites, but it's worth a look. Good luck.

flipdog.com seemed to have jobs listed, quick look I didn't see secondary social studies. Does secondary mean middle-high school? Are there other subjects that you are able to teach? At a private/charter school would you be able to teach anything?
