Anyone living in or near Schuylerville? What's you take on the town?

The school ranks well.. there are lots of historical locations, but the downtown seems a bit depressed. Homes on the back streets near the monument and orchards look nice for families, but prices seem to be dropping. Is it the market or the area?

Any input is appreciated.

I live about 4 miles outside of town in Quaker Springs area. We moved upstate from NJ. Housing in capital region was not as severely affected as the nation. We love the area, have made some great friends.

The town itself is a bit depressed as are many small towns in upstate. They cannot compete with big stores.

Schuylerville school district is highly rated. Not sure what other information I can provide you. There are several surrounding towns also in Schuylerville school district.

Thanks Ellwood. Seems that most people outside the village are happy with the area. Housing does seem to be more stable in the surrounding area. I have seen a few village homes that have been on the market for over a year and asking prices coming down quickly. I read one post here warning about Section 8 housing, crime and drugs in the village. It also appears the village is talking about dissolution, which will mean higher taxes for everyone. I was looking for a home in a nice village that could be rehabed for a middle class family close to a good school. I think we'll look elsewhere.

Thanks for the response

According to the meetings on the dissolution of the village, it doesn't appear the taxes will increase. Our post office is Schuylerville, but we actually live in the town of Saratoga. AFA drugs and crime, I'm sure there is some, but it isn't very widespread. We are involved in fire/rescue, etc. and don't see incidents as such.

You might look into the other towns that make up Schuylerville SD (Northunderland - check out Brampton Woods development), Greenwich, Stillwater, Wilton, Easton). Good luck.
