Possible move to the Albany Area, seeking advice (New York, Colonie: apartment complexes, for rent)

I am waiting to hear of my acceptance into a graduate program at SUNY Albany. I am a divorced, mid life empty nester looking to start a new career.

I am originally from upstate NY, so I recall the weather, etc, that is not the issue right now.

The issue at hand is trying to decide where to live in the area as a move may be only a few months away.

Needs:

- Safe, clean

- Reasonable commuting distance to school (I have a car)

Desires:

- Walkable
- Artsy, interesting, not your typical suburban strip mall sprawl
