Hello all!!

My sister's birthday is coming up (she lives in Troy) and I'm trying to come up with a creative birthday present. I am the kind of person that would rather give a present of something to DO and not a material item. Any suggestions around the area? I saw that there's a dinner boat cruise based out of Troy, so that is an option... but I'd like to see what else is out there. Ideally, I'd like to be able to get her a gift certificate to someplace.

Thanks!

Tickets to a concert at SPAC in Saratoga, tickets to a show at Proctor's, gift certificate to Spa (several around).

OK, this may not be exactly what you're asking. Maybe it's just me wishing for a repeat of this present for myself. But a couple of Christmases ago I got a present to this place, Cranwell, in Lenox, Mass (less than an hour from Troy) that included an overnight, food voucher, and massage. It was lovely and quiet (not sure if it would be as quiet now since it is golf season). The woman's locker room had a big hot tub, sauna and steam room, as well as a quiet room, which was an area with comfortable chairs and chaise lounges, low light, candles, gas fireplace, and tea and fruit. I could also use the indoor pool with views of the Berkshire Mountains.

If you don't want to spring for the overnight - I think it's much more expensive during the other seasons than it is in winter and early spring - you can go for a day spa package.

Thanks for the ideas! My sister does get massages pretty regularly, so while spas are a great idea, it's really not something special and unique for her. But I will keep that as an option!

Maybe a trip here; New York State Office of General Services - Convential and Cultural Events - Corning Tower Observation Deck

and then to some place she might really like but hasn't been to do in a while.

That looks really neat, but unfortunately she doesn't like heights

I finally did get out of her that Incubus will be playing at SPAC in Sept, but the tickets don't go on sale for another few weeks. So I might buy those for her and maybe a gift card to a restaurant nearby or something

Looks like you missed the Elvis impersonator convention/festival in Lake George. Now THAT would have been different.

That sounds hilarious!!!

Now I'm working with her boyfriend to get New England Patriots tickets - she's a huge fan and has never been to a game... I've wanted to get them for her before but they're past my budget. It turns out she really doesn't want anything this year and her boyfriend doesn't even know what to get her, so we may go in on the tickets together.
