I have recently heard that there are serious toxic areas around the Capital District and down into the Hudson River Valley, also Glens Falls (cement?) Since I am considering a move to the area, I'm very interested in knowing as much about this as possible...thx

Go to the EPA website. they have a list of all of the toxic waste sites in the country. The list for the list of those in NYS is the following...New York Cleanup Sites | Region 2 | US EPA

Definitely follow this advice. There are some problem areas around the Capital Region, but no more so than anywhere else I've ever lived.

Every state has toxic areas. Most are from very old mills and factories. Other toxic areas are because the state allowed companies like GE to dump dreadful things like PCBs into the Hudson River for decades up until like the 70's. This problem is far from exclusive to NY or the Capitol Region. Don't let those handful of areas scare you. Chances are you won't find houses in those areas to begin with. Many locations are only a problem if you start digging up the dirt and eat it or sit there and snort it. I can't imagine a sane person would do either.
