I live in Oklahoma, work as an Instrumentation Technician. I bring to the table many years of experience and a very marketable resume, however, it seems impossible for any employers to contact me. I would like to relocate to be closer to family, I am just wondering if this may just be a fantasy due to the economy, or should I keep sending out resumes. I am not looking for a relocation package, just the opportunity to interview....Any advice???
I was lying in bed thinking about this same sort of thing actually. I want to relocate to plattsburgh next year. So I was wondering the same thing as you...what are the odds of me finding a job up there? I was thinking about sending my resume to a job agency (I think that's what they're called) in an area that I'm interested in & have them help me find a job. Don't know if that's helpful or not... but I say keep trying, but maybe by giving your resume to an agency maybe you'll have more luck.
Global Foundries in Malta/Ballston Spa or one of its contractors - HUGE HUGE expansion. Husband is already there. We're relocating there from the West as is at least 10 other families we know.
I think it is possible. Actually, I've heard that the fact that people want to move here for a job might help them instead of hurt them. I think this is especially the case if it is a position that has been in demand in the area for a while.
Have you already sent your resumes out, made the call backs, and still not getting interviews?
I don't really know what your job is, or what types of companies you could work for, but I'd say it's possible. Keep trying, sometimes it can take a while. I think with large companies it can take longer too. That's what my husband has found, w/a large company w/headquarters some where else, the resume needs to be forwarded, then reviewed, and the whole process can take a month. Have you looked in both local papers? craigslist? sites specific to your career for jobs? Good luck!

I've been meaning to ask you... which types of jobs are most in demand in upstate New York?

Global Foundries is hiring, especially with experience. Friend applied who was working in VT and Global sent him to Germany for six months to train. He previously worked for IBM on chips. Careers http://www.globalfoundries.com/careers/malta.aspx
