I need some advice on moving to the Albany area. I am from Maine and am looking for a change and also want to go back to grad school at some point. I am a single female and am wondering how Albany is for people my age.

I am 25 and just left albany! While there are many schools in the area and the nightlife is certainly a good time, if you have any other options of places to move, go there instead of albany.

It's definitely a dying city with many many problems. Since we are similar in age group, i'd look at the prices of the apt's, the commute etc., and compare that to other areas.

My rent in albany was 955 per month for a 2 bedroom, and now i'm in NC and am paying 700 for a bigger apartment with a better job market. Sorry to be a downer (as i had many negative postings for my threads), but unless you are 100% set on albany, i'd keep looking in other places.

I wouldn't say Albany is dying. It, like many other cities in upstate saw a decline some years back but is turning around. The Albany area has made great strides to turn itself around.
There is plenty around for you if you look for it. The cost of living is cheap enough too.
