Relocating to upstate area (Albany suburbs) with kids, from Long Island. Would like to know about the safest towns, best school districts, and family friendly towns.

Also, want to avoid flood plains... do you know where the best towns near Albany are?

I sent you a pm re schools and so on.

Meanwhile the job situation is pretty rotten but it's bad all over, isn't it? What sort of work do you or your spouse do?

Coming from Long Island I think you would like South Colonie the best (the village of Colonie). It is very close to the mall and the most developed while still safe with good schools.

South Colonie? SC schools is just a step above Albany city schools, so I don't think that would be appropriate unless he wants to have his kids grow up to be illiterate mall rats.

I know it's tough. We work from home though, ideally we want off Long Island, but we want a town like where we currently live (stores, good schools, suburb).

Do you want a walkable community or one that isn't so much, but has a strip of stores?

If you want to be near a lot of stores the way Long Island has but don't need a walkable town I'd say Colonie (South Colonie) is still your best bet followed by Clifton Park.
