I lived in Houston for several years and eventually ended up in Saratoga Springs after getting a teaching job with SUNY. I think both places are very different - one being that Houston is now the 4th largest city in the US. With that being said, I really think SS is a great place to raise a family. I have a 12 year old boy. The public schools are good and there are so many enrichment opportunities for kids ... more than sports. The beautiful Adirondack mountains are here as well as many recreational activities. The cost is living is acceptable and you can still find a nice home for a reasonable price. Saratoga County has the lowest property taxes in NYS. You also are in a 4 hour range of Montreal, Boston, and NYC... so, I highly recommend it here.

I didn't know that Saratoga County had the lowest property taxes in the state. Is that by rate? It is one of the fastest growing counties in the state too.

Thank you! Are you originally from Texas? Do you miss the Texas winters? I miss real winter, but after living here for so long, I have to admit that I have started liking how mild the winters are. But I loathe the summers.
