Looking to be married in Lake George or surrounding area. I'm hoping this forum might bring some good suggestions. Thank you in advance for any thoughts/ideas.
We live in Charlotte NC, but my fiance's grandparents live on Schroon Lake. We like the area but don't know a lot of wedding venues. We would like to keep it somewhat close to Albany for out of town guests' convenience. thanks again!
Longfellows is nice for a winter/early spring venue but there are no windows and it's kind of closed off and tends to be damp at times. Not very large either. if you are having more than 150, it will be cramped.
Hall of Springs is nice if you can do an outside wedding as well.
Also Prime does a nice outdoor wedding as well. Just stay focused on what you want and don't let them talk you into what they want to do. Dancing space is limited inside.
Friends Lake Inn is very nice, but probably not as big and also pricier than some of the other venues you are looking at. Longfellows isn't as intimate, but I've hosted work functions there, and their staff was very accommodating and easy to work with. Longfellows is also easy to get to from the highway and is partway between Albany and Lake George. One thing about Longfellows - the last time I held an event there, one of the bathrooms was not handicapped accessible (can't remember if it was men's or women's). You may not think this is a problem, but people had to climb a long set of stairs to get to it, which can be difficult for older guests. Definitely ask about it. Also, the main function area is very pretty, but ask if any functions are being held in the adjoining meeting rooms. Once there was a meeting of about 25 women in one of the adjacent rooms. They were just a service organization, not a bunch of rowdies, but their talking and laughter could definitely be heard when our speaker was presenting. Maybe YOUR wedding will be rowdy, so that won't matter to you :-)
You could always check out Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs. I took my Mom there a few years ago for Mother's Day and it was fantastic. I can only imagine how nice a wedding would be.

Thanks, we're looking into both of these places. And yes, our event will be rowdy!
