This makes sense, as Saratoga County was the fastest growing county in the state between 2000-2010.

This. There isn't much job growth otherwise.

Correct. The Times Union reported two days ago that the Capital Region unemployment rate hit an all-time high last month, and worsens every month. It's NOT good when your unemployment trend is going sharply in the opposite direction of the nation as a whole.

That's only because the state has been cutting jobs. The private sector is doing well but the state has been laying people off.

Also, I believe that the numbers that have come out are preliminary and are subject to change according to the labor department website: NYS Breaks State Record for Continuous Private Sector Job Growth -- 17 Months of Job

The outline for the proposed 2013-14 budget provides some interesting information about economic growth and development for the entire state. Of note is an initiative to promote tourism in upstate NY

Governor Cuomo Outlines 2013-2014 Executive Budget to Maintain Fiscal Responsibility and Continue to Invest in Economic Growth | Governor Andrew M. Cuomo

Don't get me wrong, it is wonderful that there is some rotation from public-sector jobs to private sector.

I'm also a fan of promoting tourism. I'd love to se a couple year-round full service Adirondack resorts like Stratton/Stowe. Vermont has done this without violating their environmental principles.

That said, just saying there is private sector job growth doesn't tell the whole story. If you add 10 private sector jobs but population grows by 11, and other private companies cut 10 jobs, and the state cuts 10 jobs...you're way behind and unemployment goes up. Stop the bleeding, cut taxes, and foster growth in every way.

Again, it's good to see 17 months of job growth, not so good to see an "inverse" unemployment number. That's all I'm saying.
