Since some posters in this forum seem to believe that Albany has a low crime rate, perhaps they can help me understand the following:

"With a crime rate of 50 per one thousand residents, Albany has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 20. Within New York, more than 97% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Albany."

Again the metro area is one of the safest in terms of top 100 metros and the information was posted in another thread. This doesn't mean that the whole area is crime free or doesn't have areas of high crime, but it is in relative terms.

So, except for the 40,000 residents of Clifton Park, the roughly 300,000 combined residents of Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Rensselaer, Saratoga Springs, East Greenbush, Latham and Colonie enjoy a crime rate at least 80% higher than the rest of the state.

Somehow, I don't think that crime figures for Cohoes, Menands, Rotterdam, Green Island would improve that scenario.

If you are so concerned about the crime, and if you hate the area so much (which, judging by your posts, you do) why don't you, you know, move to somewhere else?

I don't "hate the area so much." I think it's appropriate to point out the deficits of "the area" at least in the hope that something be done to correct it.

It's an incredible shame that people need to live in fear of crime. Ignoring the problem won't make it go away, as Albany is an example of that.

It's a fundamental right to speak out on matters of public concern. I use my right.

Syracuse.com actually posted a good app for looking up crime rates and comparing them in New York communities: Look up crime rates for New York cities, towns and villages (database) | syracuse.com

You'll see that Albany is not the top in the state, nor are any communities in the metro area even in the top 5. Are Buffalo, Rochester, or Syracuse any worse to live in than Albany? No. You're too obsessed with crime rates defining an area.

According to the same website you used, Albany isn't even in the top 100 most dangerous cities in 2015 and Schenectady barely makes the list:

Top 100 Most Dangerous Cities 2015

Some cities that have a worse crime rate than Albany per capita include Minneapolis, Atlanta, Orlando, St. Petersburg FL, etc. Albany is nothing special.

Again, here are some recent metro crime rankings: http://os.cqpress.com/citycrime/2013...wtoHigh%29.pdf

Also, a city like Albany is going to bigger than most places in NY State considering that it is the 6th biggest city in the state. Schenectady is the 10th biggest city in the state and Troy is the 19th biggest in the state in terms of population.

I celebrate with you the fact that Schenectady barely makes the top 100 most dangerous cities in 2015 and that Albany is just plain dangerous.

Is your closing sentence a Freudian slip?

That website is interesting, as it uses the city population, but the map for city neighborhoods include suburban areas. So, are they using the city population, while including incidents for the area on the map?

Also, if it is using cities with 25,000 people and up, how does East St Louis IL not make the list? It is a city the size of Saratoga Springs(has 27,000 people) and averages about as many, if not a little bit more than Albany, Schenectady and Troy combined in terms of homicides, on average. A city like Gary IN(80,000 people) puts up Buffalo numbers in terms of homicides, if not higher, but Buffalo is ranked higher on that list. That doesn't make sense and the list seems to be quite random.
