Any suggestions of where to go visit for hiking and viewing of fall color changes in the Adirondacks?
On the drive any suggestions for pick your own farms or local farmer's markets?
Finally, what is the best time of year to visit? I'm planning to go in the fall, but are there better times to visit for the things I noted above?
Best time would be when leaves are changing for scenery. In Adirondacks usually the peak is the first week of October. In September they usually have a better idea of when the leaves will be at peak. AFA hiking and trails, there is Moreau State Park and the Saratoga Historical National Park. Further north (Lake Placid) there is the Adirondacks High Peaks.
If you want some fun with zip lines and climbing, my son and a couple of friends went to Adirondack Extreme in Bolton Landing. You can look it up on the net and suggest making reservations.
We are flying into LGA and planning to take Amtrak into Albany. From there we'll rent a car and travel through VT up to maybe Burlington over to Lake Placid and back. In that route thoughts about specific hiking trails and pick your own farms to visit? Other than that, any ideas that we should hit for a 9 yo boy?
