Can anyone list some great spots to hike in the capital region . Nothing like just random flat bike paths or stuff like the Albany pine bush . More stuff with varied terrain , cliffs and waterfalls and look offs and even actual mountains .

I prefer not a really long all day hike but stuff you can start at 1-2 in the afternoon and be ok not getting stuck in the dark .

Anything in the catskill area or the mountains on the mass / New York border .

One of my favorites: Adirondack Hikes | Adirondack Mountain Club

There are more hikes you can make from the same starting point too.

Try John Boyd Thacher State Park on the Helderberg escarpment near Voorheesville: Thacher State Park.

Stop at Indian Ladder Farm for apples, cider, pumpkins, gifts, etc.
