I am a single Mom currently living in Dutchess County, working as a home health aide. Rent around here is so expensive, and I've always considered outside of Albany. I want to settle into a place I can stay for at least 5 years! So far Rensselaer County seems to be the best, as far as rent prices, quality of schools, safety, distance to things to do, and being family friendly. However it seems that affordable rentals are competitive! Any tips on finding a great place around Greenbush? Any other counties/areas to consider? Also what are some good home health agencies that pay well? (If any, I may apply to work as a Patient Care Tech, or other similar decent jobs). My move would be in September, so I need to work fast. Plan B is stay in Dutchess. Thanks!

Have you been searching for jobs in the area yet? That would likely help determine where in the area you would be able to live in.

Supermarkets, in the front, usually have papers or magazines devoted to local rentals. It won't be cheap. Even in the bad areas in Troy a 2 bedroom is $1000+.

If your budget is indeed under $1K a month - for a 2 bedroom in the County- that may be a bit tough! But the job's gotta come first! Good luck in your search.
