No idea. I left there after graduating college in 2007. I went back a couple of years ago and nothing seemed to be any different. I can’t comment on the rest of Potsdam because I never had a reason to go anywhere but the college and downtown. Canton doesn’t seem to be an better, as there’s 2 colleges there also. Downtown Canton was even more dumpy than downtown Potsdam.

I beg to differ those who say the weather isn’t any worse in Potsdam than the rest of the state. I grew up in Saratoga, and it was much colder in Potsdam, mainly because of the wind. The snow was the same, but the entire top of the state doesn’t have the Adirondacks to buffer the cold Canadian winds. So the windchill makes it that much colder, even if the air temperature isn’t much different.

So, do you have any idea where professors, college staff members or doctors live in that area?

From simple research, these census block groups are solidly middle class neighborhoods in that area: Census Block Group 490800-1 in Saint Lawrence County, New York

Census Block Group 490900-3 in Saint Lawrence County, New York

Census Block Group 491200-1 in Saint Lawrence County, New York

Census Block Group 491000-3 in Saint Lawrence County, New York

Census Block Group 491000-2 in Saint Lawrence County, New York

Just applied there. Wondering if you accepted the position? How do you like it if so? Where did you end up living?

Thanks!
