So, there may be other factors to consider in terms of urban schooling.

This is the middle class census tract that is partially covered by the Troy City SD outside of city limits: Census Tract 052004 in Rensselaer County, New York

While there are options, some of those options are not free, which could limit the students who are able to attend. The parents of students who want their children to have a better chance of success (and can afford it) will utilize the private option. I'm curious as to the demographics of private schools serving students who live in the Troy City SD. Would they be comprised of a large number of students who live in the areas outside the Troy city limits?

The Regents are making it easier to pass so more kids are graduating. They aren't learning more. The standards are being lowered so former failures can pass, too.

I have gone through 2 children taking Regents exams over the last 12 years. My youngest was in the unfortunate group (Class of 2017) which NYS used as Common Core Regents guinea pigs. They had to take both the 'old' and Common Core Regents exams. Students had scored better on the old Regents. The questions were clear and the answers were not ambiguous. The Board of Regents had to drop questions and recalculate grades on the CC exams. Despite the issues, NYS moved ahead with the flawed tests and did away with the old exams.

The article above reinforces the concept that the CC Regents are flawed and should be eliminated.

I’m sure there are some and some my even get aid/scholarships to attend. There’s LaSalle Institute for Boys, Emma Willard for Girls and Catholic Central(a coed option). You also have Doane Stuart in nearby Rensselaer.

Lansingburgh is another SD that serves parts of Troy and adjacent areas outside of city limits. Troy actually has a high grad rate out of the 2 public options.
