The Albany region will receive an unprecedented amount of national and international television coverage this week when 125 Olympians and professional female athletes arrive to compete in the inaugural Aurora Games.
ESPNU, ESPN3 and Eurosport will broadcast 20 hours of competition, putting an upstate New York region that is home to 1.1 million people in the global spotlight for six days.
Wimbledon tennis champions, winners of 14 Olympic gold medals and world record holders from two dozen countries are flying in to coach and compete in seven sports at the Times Union Center and Albany Capital Center Tuesday through Saturday.
"You can't pay for that kind of marketing," said Jay Cloutier, sales director for the Albany County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
