"Tenant advocates are continuing to press Albany city officials to do a housing vacancy study — a required step before the rents on more than 5,000 privately owned apartments could be regulated.

Members of Citizen Action of New York and others are expected to be at a meeting of the Common Council Housing Committee at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in City Hall to urge city officials to authorize the vacancy study.

The study would determine the vacancy rate in apartment buildings with six or more units that were built before 1974. Citizen Action estimates there are 5,600 units meeting the criteria."

Didn't some state agency try to fine a lady who had been raped and was advocating for victim's rights, because she hadn't registered as lobbyist. I was out of state and heard about that. Crazy.
