Can anyone give me information about this community college that is located in Troy, New York. Do they have any kind of sports programs such as wrestling, lacrosse, and football. My son is a senior is high school and looking to go to college. He is gifted in the sports area but has been an ok student. His math SAT scores are very low (other scores are great and his english teacher vouches for him that he is more than ready for the demands of college writing). He wants to go onto college and is willing to go to a 2 year but wants also to continue his sports. He does have an IEP. An information or insight regarding would be helpful. Thanks
Well, hopefully this reply isn't much too late, but HVCC offers diverse sport programs. It has basically everything including: football, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, and I believe tennis. The school is alright. It is just your average community college. Although, the traffic in the mornings can be somewhat of a nightmare, especially when approaching the school. People seem to come from all over the place and generally don't look, but thats just inexperienced driving. The teachers at the school are good for the most part and they do provide extra help, but your child needs to ask for it or he will not recieve it. The teachers also provide students with office hours for additional assistance. In regards to his IEP, there is a place to go in the Campus Center which is I believe first floor to the left. I hope this helps and I hope this response wasn't too late. Enjoy!
Note: If your child does in fact decide to go, make sure that he schedules classes well in advance. The school is bombarded with students and classes fill up quickly.
