I am considering a move from Long Island NY to upstate NY, somewhere outside of Albany. My main reason for relocating is to have horses on my property and set up a barn. Ideally I would like at least 3 acres. How do the property taxes compare to those on Long Island?
I'm looking for an area that is of course "horse friendly", not to far from a quaint town, reasonable taxes, and access to a hospital and some shopping. Am I asking too much or should I stay put? Finding a new job does not need to be considered since I will be working from home for the most part.

Schuylerville, Ganesvoort, Northunderland, Stillwater. 3 acres in Saratoga estimate $5000/year.

Columbia County is 30-35 minutes away--alot of farm land, acreage. Taxes might be cheaper versus the capitol district area.
East Greenbush or Chatham area, too.

I know this is an older post, but if you're still checking it, come to horse country in Columbia county. There is still an active Hunt CLub here.

It's 35 minutes from the northern part of the county to the Albany Airport on I-90.
Hospital- Columbia Memorial in Hudson is in the center of the couny, Albany Med Center in Albany
Shopping- groceries and Walmart(in Hudson) but for the mall you'd need to drive to Albany.

I know you can keep horses in Selkirk, a small town South of Albany. It is near Exit 22 of the Thruway.
