It depends on the county as each county's tax rate is different. In relationship to NJ it is cheaper upstate NY ex. car insurance dropped $900. Energy efficiency is important when purchasing a home: heat, appliances, etc.

Where in NY state? The best way to determine property taxes is to look at the actual taxes for specific properties in the areas you are interested in. Cost of living.. totally depends on where. When I moved from NYC to Albany 7 years ago my cost of living dropped 40%.

Real estate sites often have cost of living comparison calculators, you can put in your current location and salary and compare it to different places to find out how much more or less your income would be worth in other areas.
