Hi Everyone,
We're moving to Albany from Boston in late August, and I have two tricky cars to register. Any help would be *greatly* appreciated.
1. Our Honda with RI plates. It's been stored in RI for the past year (didn't need it in Boston) and the registration has since expired. We can't really drive it without it first being registered. Do we need to first update our RI registration, then drive it to NYS, and then get it registered there?
2. Our old Audi with Ontario plates. I'll be driving my parents' old Audi from Toronto to Albany. They are giving me the car. Does anyone know the processes of registering this car in NYS?
Thank you for any help. I'm a little overwhelmed

Although I can't specifically answer your questions, when I registered my car from NJ, they didn't ask for the current registration at all. Important was the title, and sign the papers indicating you already paid the tax when you bought the car. As far as the Audi, make sure you have the bill of sale with the amount of purchase i.e. $1.
Most important when you go for your driver's license bring your social security card. NYS DMV - Driver License, Learner Permit and Non-Driver Photo ID Card (http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/license.htm - broken link)

When I registered a car from NJ a few years ago, the NY DMV wanted the title of the car, the bill of sale indicating the amount of the car cost (for tax purposes) and my NY driver's license (and of course money!).

Thanks, Chava61. Hopefully this will work. As long as we can get the car to New York state without any mishaps...
