Uhhhmmmm--That's all true about getting to Oneonta from metro NYC... That's why it's still so nice and unspoiled...a little geographic barrier called.. the Catskill Mountains.:...Just my own 2 cents here....

Understood. That's what I mean about having to go back and forth over them there mountains. I've been to that area in college and it is beautiful and unspoiled- and isolated.

I've settled upon the Albany region. It's less than 3 hours without traffic from my job. There seems to be a wide range of home prices. I spent a solid week up there and my favorite areas are Ballston Spa, Queensbury, Glens Falls, and obviously Saratoga Springs.

Question: I'd like to invest in a small home that needs work. A small craftsman or other type of home with some character in a town like Ballston Spa. No more than 2 beds and preferably 1.5 baths, with a basement and fireplace. Is it possible to find what I want for $150k?

Have you thought about the Hudson Valley Region? Some beautiful places. How about Red Hook?
