I don't think there are any bad areas of Glenville. Certain streets or areas might be more desireable, but not bad or dangerous. There are areas that have neighborhoods, and areas that are much more rural. I think it's a beautiful area. The only thing I can think of is that just make sure you know what school district you are looking for. I think kids in Glenville could go to various schools depending on the area. Not that any of the districts are bad, you just may be looking for a particular one. Niskayuna Schools or Scotia-Glenville. Both are good schools, Nisky is probably rated as the better of the two.
East Glenville (and the rest of Glenville for that matter) is a nice area generally. As j12308 said, I don't think there are really any bad areas of Glenville. Out of all three schools mentioned, I think Nisky is rated higher, but Nisky in general tends to be made up of a lot of well-off families. Scotia-Glenville and Burnt Hills-Balston Spa are nice schools as well.
