We are a young family (1 toddler, 1 infant) from Brooklyn, NY. We currently live in Clifton Park. I work downtown Albany.

We would like to consider living in Albany and am looking for feedback on how family friendly it is to live in Albany. We went to the area around Washington Park for the Tulip Festival and liked the area very much. But I am looking for information on the demographics, children friendly amenities (YMCA, parks, playgrounds, etc), and the safety of the neighborhoods in Albany.

We are from Brooklyn, so we are comfortable with the high density and small spaces. We don't want or need a big back yard and white picket fences. We would love to live near friendly neighbors, be able to walk to buy groceries or for ice cream after dinner, and be amongst other younger, professional families. And lastly, we are looking for a superb school district.

We would appreciate some feedback from the knowledgeable locals on this site. Thank you very much.

Look at Whitehall, Pine Hills and Helderburg in terms of possible neighborhoods. I think the best public elementary school in the Albany SD is in the Washington Park area too.
