I'm a single Mom with a 4 1/2 year old and I am looking into Albany (and a million other places LOL)
I need an apartment at about $750/month (I need at least a 1br, my son needs a room so no studio), in a safe area, with a good school district (How is parking?). My son has only had part time daycare and I'm nervous about sending him to school, but I found out in Albany he has to start this year. (In just 3 months!!) If I'm unable to find work until say December or something, my son wouldn't be in school here, so how would relocating work??
Also what is the income limit for a daycare subsidy for a family of two? What affordable childcare programs or places are there, and do the schools bus the kids to them?
For work I am looking into human services with limited experience, so I am expecting to make no more than $2,000/month. Trying to see if the move is feasible or not.
I'm currently in Dutchess County, which is out of the question. I've been applying in Ulster, but no interviews. I'm getting interviews in Middletown and would live in Sullivan. Considering the unemployment rates in these areas, cost of rent, public transportation, and even amount of sitters and child care, Albany is looking like a good place. (I'm also open to Troy, Schenectady, and the surrounding towns like Cohoes and Watervliet. Albany is a top pick because I'm more familiar with it.) For work I'm looking into human services, and hope to make 10-11/hour to start.
