How's the drive to NYC if I chose to do that? Would it even be worth it for someone completely unfamiliar with the city? Thanks in advance for any info!
I can second what another has said about Lake George. Just about my favorite area of upstate NY. Also, the downtown area (Broadway) of Saratoga Springs is worth spending some time exploring. Lots of restaurants there.

Cooperstown is about 80 miles west if you are into that kind of thing.

I'd see Saratoga - it's a sight during track season!

A trip up to the Adirondacks is always stunning.

You could go tubing down one of the rivers - especially relaxing and cooling in hot weather.

Some great hikes to waterfalls in the area.

Bennington, VT is very cute with some great views also. Nice day trip.

If you haven't come up to the area yet, hope you've received some good ideas!
