Living S. of Candelaria, E. of Tramway. Need a place that has activities for kids/families (including a pool) and good exercise equipment for my husband, who is kind of a fitness freak. 15-20 minutes in any direction OK. I've looked at several on line, and so far all I have noticed is that they are all a LOT more expensive than back East. We are paying $55/month all inclusive family membership now, lol. All of yours seem to be double that. My husband cannot live w/o one though, it is nonnegotiable. Might as well go all the way and join one everyone can use.

Recommendations to check out or avoid?

Moderator cut: Not helpful, condescending in a way...

Full-service gyms in Albuquerque are expensive. For cheap pools consider school pools at Sandia High (indoor) or Eisenhower Mid (outdoor).

The city of Albuquerque (ABQ) has twelve swimming pools, some indoors and some outdoors. Looks like there may be four close to you. Here is the ABQ website has has info on theirs: There is also a lot of kids related activities listed throughout the site: Aquatics - City of Albuquerque

We live in Rio Rancho, so the kid and grand kids use the ones up there, so I'm not familiar with the ABQ ones.

I don't know what got cut Zoidberg, perhaps I'm glad I missed it, but all the pool suggestions were great, so thanks! My kids will appreciate that.

Usually, my husband brings the kids with him and they swim while he works out. He will want a gym that offers something to keep them busy while he exercises. Where we go now has pools with lifeguards and an Xrkade (interactive video games, etc) as well as childcare, but my kids are really too old for childcare, but not old enough to stay home alone.

My wife goes to defined fitness on Juan Tabo and Candelaria and is very happy with it. We get the UNM discount and our rates are around $30 month each (well when I say each I mean for her because I still haven't joined yet).

There is a ymca near comanche and tramway. I am not personally familiar with it, but my in-laws go there to work out when they are here visiting and have been happy with everything offered. That particular y was renovated a few years ago.
