The United States does NOT issue International Driving Permits to foreign visitors, so you will need to obtain this document before traveling to the U.S.
I believe Intel is probably insuring the employee is properly briefed on what they need to do. They have foreign work programs in place.
Looks like about 60 meters elevation in about 1 kilometer.
The height difference looks about right but the biking distance is further; it's about 2 miles by car and google maps recommends a more circuitous route of about 3 miles (the stretch between Westside Blvd on the southern tip of Intel's campus and where Coors & Alameda meet in an interchange is very steep, fast, and like a freeway- no place for a bike).
It's just as well for you to take the longer distance- 60 meters spread over about 1.5 km is significantly easier than 60 meters over 0.6km.
I don't know why I was looking at Coors... I do not believe there is a path you could follow... There is that road to the East which goes behind the Honda and Ford dealer.
Here's the elevation graph.. steep but not bad.. and short - less than 6% grade:
If you end up at the Aspens, a better route to bike would be to take Coors Bypass to Seven Bar Loop and head up Seven Zar Loop. Then zig-zag across Ellison to Seven Bar Loop North which gets you to Hwy.528 and West Side in RR which is right at Intel. It's a much safer route because it's all residential once you turn onto Seven Bar Loop, and the hill is not as steep compared to biking up Hwy 528.
good topic dazzday - I'm a Derry lad heading over to NM on Wednesday. Also staying in the Aspens. I'll try scope out as much as possible before you arrive.
I play a lot of soccer, does anyone know of any Mens leagues that are played? I might try ask the University of New Mexico Mens soccer to train with them while I'm there...but not sure if they'd let me.
Thanks for any help, and looking forward to the experience!
Here is a piece of advice from a Yankee that lives in the cloudy North East US. Buy and use sun block creams by the bucket full until you skin adapts to the high altitude (high compared with Dublin) and uninhibited New Mexico sunshine. Also be aware that ABQ is over a mile (1.6Km) elevation so you may note you are breathing harder for a “normal” level of exercise.
