Hello again,
You've all been so helpful and kind, I'm about to request your expertise again>
I've been on Craigslist non stop for the past few weeks.

There is a little house that I'm interested in and I wanted to ask your opinions about it. It is on Claremont Ave. across from a park:
albuquerque apts/housing for rent classifieds "9501 claremont ave" - craigslist

It has concrete floors, I love that. And no sharing walls or ceilings with anyone.
There is a washer in the house but the dryer is in a "shed". There is also a duplex connected to the house. I am worried about the shed thing and the duplex, not sure what the neighbors are like. A friend is coming by for a view later. What do you think of the area? Are dogs allowed in this park? I Google viewed the address and it looks fairly sedate and clean in 2011 lol.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I've been down along that part of Menaul Blvd many times over the years. It's a nice area.

You are about 1/3 rd of a mile walk to bus.

That is a low crime area: Crime Map - Claremont, Albuquerque

I'm not sure about the park and pets. It is not one of the enclosed parks where dogs can run free. See if they have any signs. If not, you have a lot of decent walking areas.

That is a nice area. Dogs are allowed as long as they are on a leash.

Whew...that's a relief!
The crime map was the first thing I checked but it's always nice to hear it confirmed by the locals.

I thought it looked great also. Hopefully all will be well with the house.

You should be able to catch the #8 Menaul to Louisiana or the UTC and transfer to the Montano/Kirtland route (#157). Those two routes used to have decent transfer times since they both run fairly frequently on weekdays.

Not going to lie, even though I have the ABQ routes saved on my desk top, I was hoping you would respond with bus advice . Have you had any experience with ABQ cabs? Where I live service is spotty to nil.

I've never taken a cab here, can't help you with that. What I usually did when I couldn't get somewhere on the bus was rent car from Enterprise or Rent A Wreck (not really wrecks, just nice used cars) for a day or two. I'd save up my non-bus errands and clients and cover all of them on the days I had the rental car. Probably once a month. I'm self employed so I could write off much of the cost.

Trust me, it was good advice if you are looking for a place to live and want to be in the safest possible area with nicer homes. I think east of San Mateo and south of Indian School is sketchy enough (with exceptions of course), but below Central? No way I would even consider it; it just isn't necessary if you have a reasonable budget.

I live in the big box west of San Mateo, above Lomas and below Indian School, and east of Carlisle, and you have to be a bit selective in some of those neighborhoods, too, but in large part it is a very nice area, especially the western half of this box, but the closer you get to San Mateo, that "niceness" starts to trail off. There is lots of commercial property crime on the major streets so it pays to live a little deeper into the neighborhoods sometimes as opposed to being just one block off of any of those streets, and I would not live on any of those streets themselves.
