Just imagine a soft fruit flavored italian gelati ice combined with a delicious custard ice cream ... that melange of flavors ... hitting your taste buds ... you will never forget the taste of Rita's Italian Ice & Custard coming to Albuquerque March 2015!!! I've had many a Rita's ice when I lived on the east coast! Now you will discover the ultimate summer treat.
Eight months? I gotta wait eight months to try Rita's soft fruit flavored italian gelati ice combined with a delicious custard ice cream??? I dunno if I can do it. I never had it!!! But we can at least still get Blue Bell Moo-llennium Crunch here!
Rita's is special. I would drive 45 minutes to the closest one near me in New Jersey during the summer when I lived in NYC. I don't know about calories, but it is not a heavy dessert, especially when you combine the custard and the ice into a shake - its a simple treat that works so well. The consistency of the italian ice is more like a gelato than a hard ice - and they would change the flavors on a weekly basis. They will be worth seeking out in the spring. According to the press release they will open in Albuquerque in March 2015 and will also have franchises in Santa Fe. You don't know it it yet Albuquerque, but you will looooove this! Its cheap and a real family treat.
Meant another reason for a return visit in the future. Not that we need another food reason Chiles rule in our book. We eat them morning, noon and night on our visits. But Ritas sounds delicious it will be on our list.

Couldn't agree with you more! After some good carne adovada or chile relenos, a run down to Rita's for a light refreshing italian ice will be a great way to end the evening.
Believe it or not, there's a Rita's a block away from me and I've never had it. I personally never could understand the appeal of frozen, flavored sugar water, but to each his own. I prefer ice cream over Italian ices, so when is Carvel coming to ABQ?
