I have columns running in several New Mexico papers. Some of the old dinosaurs who were opposed to legalization were defeated. We may have the dumbest governor of all 50 states in New Mexico. We have a budget crisis and this will help. In addition she was proposing a Death Penalty which is three times more expensive than Life in Prison.Ugh.
I've seen several posts where marijuana is not actually spelled out - sort of like we will all know what is meant by "legalization." And those who don't will be forced to click on the article.
Wrt to the Death Penalty, I fully agree. Why would a poor state like New Mexico want the Death Penalty? Just a money maker for the lawyers. Not to mention other potential issues (e.g., inconsistent application from county to county, jurors reluctant to convict because of their religious beliefs).
I California it's all about the money. The state is licking its chops at the thought of all that additional money to spend.
