How long is the basin from east to west? I was up the on the Juan Tabo end a few days ago and it seemed to go for about 2 miles to Tramway. Very interesting place.

The dam is part of the Bear Canyon Arroyo drainage (aka Arroyo del Oso), which goes from the upper Sandias, down through Arroyo del Oso golf course, then goes under street level until emerging again on the west side of I-25, where it continues downhill until it empties into the North Channel near Osuna and Chappell.

The trail you mention continues under Tramway Blvd. east for at least another half mile before it becomes the Michael Emery Trail which links to a whole network of other trails in the foothills.
