I see Rio Rancho is looking to break away from APS. It was reported that they would still be the third largest district in NM behind Las Cruces and APS. At first blush, it seems the West side students would be better served by a more compact district. What do you think?
It would become the 2nd Largest in New Mexico Actually!
And I'm sure you mean West Side Schools.. Such as..
High Schools -Cibola High School (2,503 Students) - Volcano Vista High School (1,477 Students) Projected: 2,018 - (Possible Extension) West Mesa High School (2,661 Students)
Mid-Schools - Lyndon Baines Johnson Mid School (1,043 Students) - James Monroe Mid School (1,433 Students) - James E. Carter Mid School (1,159 Students)
Elementary Schools - Chaparral Elementary School (817 Students) - Chamiza Elementary School (662 Students) - Marie M. Hughes Elementary School (710 Students) - Painted Sky Elementary School (1,011 Students) - Seven Bar Loop Elementary School (766 Students) - Sierra Vista Elementary School (812 Students) - Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary School (755 Students)
Other Schools could annex into the West Side District. Mesa Del Sol will also have its own school district soon, when all goes good the district could be the 3rd largest by 2030.
I thought RRPS was its own district. Is that what bradly is correcting?
If I remember correctly, any time someone brings up the possibility of splitting APS into two districts, there is an outcry over tax base inequality.
Is this going to work?
Exactly, RRPS is its own, It is not with APS thats the point that was made. APS will break up, the west side schools i just mentioned will be in the "new" district.
Got it! Thanks for the clarification. What would the pros/cons be?
PROS+
- These are some of the best schools in Albuquerque.
- They will get lots more attention (only 5 of these schools have actually been repaired).
- More attention to staff and students.
- New schools could soon go up (Middle Schools to be exact).
CONS-
- These schools are in needs of repairs or in need of additions, (too many kids!!)
- More Schools in this district! NOW!!
- Would there be enough support
- Cost lots of Money $$ (Im double sure)
- This area is booming! Fast! will they be able to keep up as well.
- Less Staff
I'm sure there is TONS MORE. Belive me.. these are fast thoughts.
I would be in favor of splitting APS up into 4 different entities. Split it up along the freeways. NW, NE, SW, SE. APS is too big!
Yes that would actually be a great idea Rybert! Supportive of your Idea..but you think APS is big just imagine how LVPS (Las Vegas, Nevada Public Schools) feels they are building schools non stop...
Jimmy Carter Middle School, is the BEST Middle School in the state and LBJ Middle School is 4th..
Volcano Vista and Cibola now are two of the best top 5 Albuquerque High Schools, Volcano Vista is already making progress.
Some of those Elementary schools are some of the BEST in the State, So look who is laughing now hahahahahah
