I know it's a bit early, but I don't like waiting until the last minute. I'm still a resident of CA and have to pay taxes there and NM .. along with factoring in my Smith Barney account and full-time student deductions. Anyone have a good CPA recommendation? I can't afford someone super expensive as I am a student, and I don't trust H&R Block. Thanks.

I am a CPA, I know plenty. As a student, you are eligible for VITA. Why pay a dime when you don't have to?

Well, because, I didn't know VITA was here. I've used them in California, and it's been a great experience. Will VITA file my NM and CA forms? Because the VITA at my alma mater wouldn't.

I bet they will. Remember that NM uses the federal return as the basis for the state. Once you have the fed, the state is really easy. NM has a great online e-file, and its totally free. You basically enter the numbers from the fed return into a secure web page, adjust for any credits, and you are done. It is simple. There is no program to download or install - all web-based. Let me know if you need further help.
