Another "top 10" designation for Albuquerque, as Outside magazine ranks ABQ #6 overall in the best cities in America. Certainly, I would have had the Duke City higher!:

Awesome! Now, the fact that Charlotte is #1 makes me...queasy. Lived there for a year after graduating college, and I wouldn't rank it nearly that high, and definitely not above Albuq!!!
On the other hand the "small towns" section mentions Boone, NC, which without a doubt gives more credibility to the ratings...

Hmmm...interesting. Charlotte is actually one decent-sized US city I have yet to step foot in, and I am much more a South-WESTern fellow than Southeastern, however, I would've just guessed basic on only a general knowledge that Charlotte would be my kind of a town for the SE.
However, I take your word for this, Rank, as a trusted authority. You learn something new every day here on the ol' CD Forums I guess!!

I actually have a close relation where his family hails from Boone of all places. That's interesting that you note that you like it - I surely have never been there.
I do see on previous lists they've tried to "spread the wealth" from year-to-year in terms of cities that they rank highly (and it looks like they used to mix smaller towns in with the big boys), so like almost all of these lists, obviously you take it with a grain of salt. Still, it is always great to see ABQ recognized as the wonderful city it truly is. (I see Santa Fe made this list a few years back, as did Silver City...of course, as did the eternally-overrated Madison, WI a few times)...
Good news overall today...ranked 6th, Eclipse could have a new breath of life.... much better than a couple days ago that GE was shutting down and Bank of America was closing 30 branches (even though I bank at Wells Fargo and NM Educators).

I read the list as Charlotte being 10th and Colorado Springs being first
Either way, I would consider living in 7 of the places on that list, which makes me feel kind of good about where I'm living now and my options for the future

Oooops, my mistake, thanks for pointing that out. Charlotte was #10.
EP: I should probably clarify my pos'n on Charlotte, considering I am a "trusted authority." I am not anti-Charlotte. But I lived there @ age 22, and back in '85-'86, it wasn't the most exciting place for a single, recent college graduate. Charlotte has IMO always been more of a family town, but has slowly developed more of a "happening" urban core. At the same time, all the growth that's taken place has taken a toll on quality-of-life issues, esp. as relates to traffic. A quick note on Boone: Many of my NC impressions are stuck in time, based on an 80's view. It's quite possible that Boone has since been "loved to death" as have so many other fine places, such as Chapel Hill, Charlottesville, and other college towns.
o.k., sorry for the off-topic post. Go Albuquerque!!
