Hello, I have been thinking of moving to ABQ. I have passed through a few times on road trip and see many good aspects online.
I realize the economy is down everywhere, but I was wondering if anyone works call center and/or temp gigs, and recommends specific agency. I have found when moving to other cities this is good way to get quick decent pay "day jobs"
Thanks in advance

I can't directly answer your questions but you are right, call centers are a great way to get started. They usually pay fairly well for unskilled labor and offer decent benefits. As for temp agencies, if I had a choice I would go the call center route. Biggest draw back: you might have lousy hours, but the positive side, you will meet other people, more than you do the temp route.

Good luck, one thing I would have to ask, from what you are saying, it sounds like you would take a job at a call center just to get started with no intent on staying. Do you have any idea how much it cost to train somebody for call center work? If I sound like an old mother hen or like I am lecturing, I am.

many are short term projects/contract based.
Call center is not as bad as people say, esp if higher level tech support or b2b inside sales.
training/turnover seems a big cost of business. some places seem to invest in trying to cultivate long term, others act like they expect you to leave (not as much in this economy lol).
I like temping, flexibility, meeting diff people.

Hewlett Packard is in the midst of building a large call center in Rio Rancho. They have been hiring and often hold job fairs.

You can also check out Rio Grande. They have a good sized call center, and also have warehouse openings. Good pay/benefits too...

Temping is great. Not sure about the current "times" but it worked for me when I was in the city & younger. I'm not in that kind of city now.
