News Radio 770 KKOB AM - Albuquerque, New Mexico NM (http://www.770kkob.com/Article.asp?id=1536824&spid=18042 - broken link)

Well, such an announcement is not unexpected now that the quarter-cent transportation tax has been approved.

IMO this route should be known as the 740 Pink Line.

IMO the route should go from Journal Center to Kirtland AFB, with the following stops:
  • Journal Center Rail Runner Station (north end)
  • Jefferson and Osuna
  • San Mateo and Academy
  • San Mateo and Montgomery
  • San Mateo and Commanche
  • San Mateo and Candelaria
  • San Mateo and Menaul
  • San Mateo and Lomas
  • San Mateo and Central
  • San Mateo and Zuni
  • San Mateo and Gibson
  • Gibson and Louisiana
  • Building 800 (south end in Kirtland AFB)

Why not Pink? I don't see anything wrong with the color.

Perhaps Yellow, Orange, or Purple might work if Pink is a problem.

BTW, I sen't an email (two actually) to Andrew DeGarmo, and here is his response:

Quote:
Hello Chris,

Thanks for the suggestion. San Mateo is definitely a leading contender for a future Rapid Ride expansion, and I appreciate your input on the route and stops.

We'll be looking at more definite possibilities for the 1/4 cent revenue in the next couple of months now that it's definitely coming online next summer. Some of the other ideas for that funding were to increase frequency on some of the top local routes and expand hours of service to later nights, earlier mornings, additional holidays, etc - as well as try to improve service in areas that are currently under-served like the SW Mesa.

I know I owe you a reply to an earlier email about vehicles. I'm sorry I haven't been able to chase down the answers yet on the fate of the 300's. I can say that I agree with your thought that we will continue to need some smaller vehicles for a few of the local routes, plus the D-Ride. I'll try to get you a better answer next week.

Thanks again!
Andrew
I wonder which local routes is he talking about. I know the four busiest local routes (in order) are the 66 Central Avenue, the 140/141 San Mateo, the 5 Montgomery/Carlisle, and the 11 Lomas. Some other routes that might also be included could be the 3 Louisana, the 8 Menaul, the 10 North 4th Street, the 155 Coors Blvd, and the 157 Montano/Uptown.

I would definitely be in favor of expanding current Rapid Ride hours. I think it's great when the RR runs late on summer nights, but even in the summer it's only at weekends! Some of us go to movies and shows on weeknights in the summer AND all year round Let's have an 18-hour day Rapid Ride every Friday and Saturday at least, all year round.

Andros

None of the 1/4 cent tax money will become available untill July 2010
so I wouldnt count on any major changes with routing at least untill that time.
