7months sober, both me & the husband, we had to, we allowed it to control our lives and not to mention the constant fights over petty stupid stuff...... I have no regrets and no turning back, my days of partying are over and I'm happy being a sober old fart
Count me as another who does not drink alcohol AT ALL. A couple of reasons:
1) Don't like the taste.
2) I have alcohol intolerance/allergy to alcohol. One of my sisters does, too.
If I'm asked why, I give them the alcohol intolerance reason. As others have mentioned, I feel I shouldn't have to explain myself and people should just mind their own business.
I also don't drink (Or smoke) I have tried both for very short periods but never really enjoyed either.
I learned a great trick. When you are at a party or a bar, get a glass of soda, or cranberry juice, or any non alcoholic item, and sip it. as long as you have a drink in your hand NO ONE EVER BOTHERS YOU THAT YOUR NOT "DRINKING" and you can still be stone cold sober at the end of the night and drive all the drunk friends home.
I didn't start drinking until some friends took me out on my 21st birthday. If it wasn't for that, I probably would've never started drinking. I've never been a huge drinker. I will drink socially, but I never feel keep beer in my house. I just never feel the need to. If I never had another beer in my life, it wouldn't bother me a bit. I've never really been crazy about the taste of beer and I've tried many different ones.
Hi,
I don't drink alcohol....never have (30 years old.....male)......and i'm often asked 'WHY'???!!!!!!
i don't 'not' drink because of religious reasons (although i think that's how it started), but instead because of the health reasons and because i simply have no desire to do so now.
Is anyone in the same boat? How do you respond to this question when asked?
I think it's harder for us guys because it's kind of the "macho" thing to do and if you don't drink, you may be looked upon by your fellow male friends as a wimp or something. As I mentioned in a previous post, I drink socially and in moderation, but if I never drank another beer in my life, it wouldn't bother me a bit. I have a friend who is 32 and has never drank a beer in his life. He was even in the Navy and resisted all the peer pressure to drink! Now that takes some willpower, lol! I've never criticized him for not drinking. Why would I care one way or another? It's his life. That's what I don't like about some drinkers is the fact that they look at you like you have a third eye if you don't drink and then try to pressure you into it. I don't ever do that to non-drinkers.
I tried beer & mixed drinks in college. I did not like the taste nor the dizziness I felt with less than one drink. Never have understood the appeal of geting drunk. To me alcohol is nasty tasting empty calories. If I am going to ingest extra calories I want chocolate!?!
I have Guiness in my fridge right now but it is for the Bundt Cake I am going to make. I haven't had an actual beer in I don't know how long. I used to be a big drinker but gave it up when I was 15 and have limited myself to social drinking ever since them.
